Fresno Drops in National Survery on Biblical-Mindedness

From 2012 to 2013, according to a study by Barna Group and the American Bible Society, Fresno has dropped 4 spots from last year in a national survey on biblical-mindedness. The criteria for the study was based on:

  • Location
  • Have you read the bible in the last week?
  • Do you agree with the bible?

This is important information because it shows us, church leaders, how we’re doing in equipping people to read and understand the bible.

I’ve been asked many times, “Why plant a church in the Fresno/Clovis area?”

There are mockers and scoffers who believe I sold out the mission to be in this area. Well, I believe this market (area, city) needs a growing relationship with Jesus Christ. And I have a genuine love for the local people. So when I’m asked why Fresno… why Clovis… here’s some evidence as to why more churches need to be planted in our two cities.

2012 Survey Results indicate that Fresno is #66 out of #100 surveyed cities.
2012
2013 Survey Results say that Fresno has dropped to #70 out of #100 surveyed cities.

I can not believe that Fresno is just ahead of Seattle, WA, one of the most unchurched cities in the United States. So, why does Fresno/Clovis need a new church? We need more churches that unchurched people would love to attend that would eventually lead those people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ. Next year I pray we don’t see another headline reading, “Fresno Drops in Biblical-Mindedness.”
