Hear Me Roar

January 6, 2014 — Leave a comment

“You’re going to hear me roar.” That’s a proclamation that I have resolve. That I’m here to do something. Kind of like Nehemiah, “I am doing a great work and I cannot come down.” [Nehemiah 6:3] That’s what last night was all about at Two Cities Church. We had a blast at our 3rd preview service for Two Cities, a church that hasn’t even launched yet. Our volunteerism was up and our kids keep multiplying. We opened up an environment for elementary aged kids called UpStreet [small group edition]… it’s in BETA, but went really well last night.

After services there’s usually a text train that follows where people from our team send me all the great things that happened that night, the wins from the evening. But yesterday, one of my favorite wins was on Facebook, in the form of a review. Here’s what Daniel said after coming to catch a Glimpse of Two Cities Church.

So i FINALLY got to A Glimpse of Two Cities Church tonight.. Was GREAT to see some old friends.. Paul HaugenTim DoutyJill DoutyDarren Grubel andMicah Foster. They are doin it UP at Two Cities Church… If you do not like to go to an established church, a Big Church or are just looking for something new.. Check them out..Be WARNED…. Youre NOT going to want to leave…

Being a Music guy, Jill, Paul and Tim were AWESOME as always… They did the song by KATY PERRY – ROAR and SHE NAILED IT… I was SO impressed, as always…

You GOTTA check them out….

Next “GLIMPSE” is February 9th at 5:00pm at The Clovis Veterans Memorial Building.

If you dont want to go alone.. Let Me know..

Below I posted an album I shared on Google+ and it includes a short video from rehearsal with the song ROAR by Katy Perry. We opened the service with it and I gotta say, it was my favorite opener so far. Enjoy these candid shots and two videos.

The Best Carol Ever!

December 24, 2013 — Leave a comment

Merry Christmas Eve!

Sometimes Christmas carols can get a little old, especially when you’ve been listening to the same ones for over a month everywhere you go. But North Point Community Church in Atlanta, GA has solved that problem with “The Best Carol Ever”.

I present to you, “Christmas in Bevelton”

[Summary of What’s below: Update on our Step Up Campaign, What We Hope for in 2014, How You Can Help Get Push This Vision Forward]step up letterhead
Update
Here’s a quick update last post on our end-of-year Step Up campaign. Let me remind of you our goals for this campaign.

  • $10,000 in one-time gifts
  • $4,000 pledged in increased monthly giving starting in Jan 2014

As of this moment we are still in need of:

  • $8,620.63 in one-time gifts
  • $3,550 pledged in increased monthly giving starting in Jan 2014

What we Hope for in 2014
But here’s the deal. We don’t need the money to sustain what we’ve been doing. We’re not in maintenance mode. We want to step up the implementation of our mission and vision. To lead people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ by creating a church that unchurched people love to attend.

Here’s what the cash from this campaign enables us to do:

  • Hire a Service Programming Director – The person in charge of the adult worship experience from the parking lot to the stage.
  • Increase service frequency from 1x monthly to every 3 weeks, then every other week, then every week. [The rate at which this increases is determined by increasing volunteerism, giving, inviting and involvement with small groups.]
  • Pay off the credit we owe to our credit card, due to the purchase of our equipment and trailer.
  • Pay for our December events (KidStuf Christmas Edition and Christmas Night of Worship).
  • Give us a little margin entering 2014 for the unexpected expenses we’ll face.

In 2014, we will:

  • Open UpStreet (K-6th grade environment) – in January we will have a BETA version open!
  • Continue to grow Waumba Land – it was doubled between our first two services
  • Host every week services by mid fall 2014
  • Increase our engagement with each other through more group opportunities
  • Increase our engagement with each other through our Strategic Service teams

In 2014, we hope to:

  • Hire some of our key volunteer staff
  • Create a Starting Point group for seekers, starters and returners
  • Continue baptizing people
  • Increase our community impact by partnering with local non-profits that are getting it done

*In 2014 we will receive $25,000 in matching funds from Growing Healthy Churches. Some of this end-of-year campaign will qualify us to receive some of those funds*

Push the Vision forward:
So, here’s how you can help us reach our goals for this campaign.

1. Give or increase giving, monthly
2. Give a one-time gift (tax deductible for 2013) online
, by mail (1865 Herndon Ave K304, Clovis, Ca 93611) or in person at our Christmas Night of Worship
3. Invite your friends, family, co-workers and neighbors to our events, like these (KidStuf Christmas Edition and Christmas Night of Worship)
4. Join a launch group (small group) in January
5. Join a Strategic Service team, just let us know at our next event

You may think, “I can’t afford much, so it’s not that big of a difference.” Every penny matters, every act of faith is significant. When you give, you’re not just saying, “I want to support this.” You’re saying, “I trust God to do something significant with this.” It’s an opportunity to grow in your relationship with Jesus… which is accomplishing our mission.

Let’s Step Up together so that Two Cities Church can Step it Up!

It’s coming… the second ever Two Cities Church Night of Worship.

The Magic of Disney

I came across a volunteer training from North Point Community Church. They brought out Lee Cockerell, former CEO of Disney World, to speak about leadership to their volunteers. Here’s one, of many, things that stuck out to me as I watched his talk.

The follow list was discovered when Disney World hired the Gallup organization to survey 6,000 guests on what they expected when they visited Disney World. He made the case that these expectations can be applied to any organization or business, even a church.

So think about the following list and ask yourself how this relates to the church. I’d love to hear your thoughts.

The 4 Guest Expectations:

  • Make me feel special
  • Treat me as an individual
  • Show respect to me and my family
  • Have knowledgeable employees
  • New Vintage,

Thank you for the past three and half years. Thank you for helping to create a foundation for Josiah for us to build upon. Thank you for modeling how to create environments where unchurched and dechurched people can come, feel welcomed and want to come back. Thank you for accepting us in your family. Thank you for coming to support us today at our lunch. Thank you to those of you who have invested in our new church plant. Thank you for committing to praying for us. We will miss you.

We are around for about a month. So, this isn’t good-bye yet. If you weren’t able to make it to our lunch today, we’d love to share the vision of Two Cities Church with you.

If you’d like to partner with us as we plant this new church in the Fresno/Clovis, Ca area we would love your partnership in the mission of leading people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ!

We are working on a digital giving option, but for now you can send checks payable to Two Cities Church:

    Welcome XP3 Peeps!

    April 3, 2012 — Leave a comment

Today XP3 (xp3students.org) released my blog as a blog to watch. Thanks for the shout out!

The reason they chose my blog is because of a little eBook I released a couple of weeks ago called Social Media Tips for the Church. You can find it here. I’d be more than happy to consult with you on your social media strategy, just hit me up with a comment or email.

I wanted to provide some specific information for all my student ministry friends who are visiting my blog today and the days to follow. So here are some blogs from the past specifically about social media. Enjoy.

Here’s a quick correction to my by-line in the email. I was the Service Programming Director, until we hired my friend Paul. I oversee our Student Ministries Director, Chris. And my title today is Groups Director, Exec. Student Ministries Director and Web/Marketing Director. Just wanted to give credit, where credit is due.

    Santa Clara Church

    October 25, 2011 — Leave a comment

A few days ago, Paul Haugen, and I had the awesome pleasure to speak with a church-planter about launching his first “glimpse” or “pre-view” service. He invited us to come watch and evaluate the service as well. This is the stuff that fuels me. I walked away from that call on fire… I love sharing what we’ve learned with other church leaders. For 4 years now I’ve been praying for more North Point Strategic Partners to pop up around the West Coast and more specifically, California. Finally, we’re getting one in Santa Clara. So, if you have friends in the South Bay, there’s a new place for you to invite them to: Santa Clara Church.

    The Production Team

One of the great joys of working at New Vintage Church is working with these guys…The Production Team. They are awesome. These guys are who make the main service happen every week from a technical, auditory and aesthetic point of view. We’re always looking for new guys to join this team! And we’re trying to beef up the team a little bit to create two different teams that rotate. These guys have created a community of belonging and have become family. Interested? Email us.
