My Screaming Wife // 5

January 12, 2011 — 2 Comments

As I have told you recently. I forgot to mention two incidents (“episodes”) of “my screaming wife” from 2010. So here’s one of them.

Let me set the stage. I was at work. Erica was home with our son, Josiah. I get a phone call, it’s frantic. I don’t remember the exact conversation, but it went something like this.

Micah: Hello?
Erica (hysterically-crying and screaming): Someone’s trying to break in to our apartment!
Micah: Are you sure?
Erica: Yes, I don’t know what to do!
Micah: Have you called the police?
Erica: No.
Micah (thinking there’s got to be a better explanation): Do you need me to?
Erica: Just come home! Hurry!
Micah: Ok, stay on the phone with me while I drive.

As I drove home (about a 5 minute drive) Erica voice became a little calmer, knowing her help was on his way. As I arrived I saw a cleaning crew in the apartment above us, which happens whenever someone moves out. When I arrived she was locked away in our room and she had been crying her eyes out… scared to death.

As she recounted the story, I put 2 and 2 together. She was just doing some work on her laptop while sitting on the couch, as Josiah was sleeping. Suddenly, someone started trying to open the door. When it didn’t open, they jiggled the handle, put keys into the knob and shook the door. Erica screamed. The intruder ceased their attempted entry. She ran into one of the rooms, with her cell phone and gave me a call.

What I realized was that the cleaning service that was cleaning the apartment above us had tried to enter the wrong apartment. It wasn’t the first time, nor would it be the last. I calmed Erica down and explained what I thought had happened. She then broke out into a relief-cry. You know, the kind of cry that makes you laugh at the same time.

A few months later the same cleaning lady tried to get into our apartment, only this time as she jiggled our handle, I opened our door rapidly and she screamed. Funny how the tables turn.

My Screaming Wife // 4

We got through all of 2010 without a “screaming wife” episode…but in the start of 2011, we’ve killed our quiet streak. If you haven’t been following these little outbursts, you can catch up here:
Part 1
Part 2
Part 3

Now for Episode 4.

A few nights ago I was in a dead sleep. I mean the kind of sleep that if woken up, happiness is void from the universe. I heard a weird sound from Erica. It’s the same sound she makes every time she’s having a nightmare. It starts as a slight groan and builds to a hyperventilation and finally a barbaric yelp.

Only this time it was a little different. She did the strange groan…but then she grabbed my chest, starting to hyperventilate and shouted, “Who the hell are you?!!!” all while I was trying to wake her up.

After she woke up…she was very confused. She was dreaming that she had gone to calm our son down in his room and on her way back to our room our front door opened and a woman walked in. And that’s when she yelled.

After telling me the story and the dream, I was out-of-it and I just wanted to fall back asleep. The only problem was that every 30 seconds or so Erica would break out into laughter over the incident. Not like a LOL, but more of a silent chuckle. The kind that shakes your body, but makes no sound. So I couldn’t fall back sleep for 30 minutes because every time I almost fell asleep the bed would shake from her silent chuckle-tremors.

And even as I type this… Those tremors continue.

I love my screaming wife.
